Appointmint vs MedicineOne

MedicineOne, with its NEO platform, is a clinical system from single practice to hospital: clinical records, prescribing, decision support, nursing, inpatient care, billing to insurers and subsystems, and HL7 and FHIR interoperability. We are not a substitute for that, and saying so saves you time. We are the alternative where the work is outpatient: the clinic where cost per seat and everyday operations weigh more than inpatient care.

Different categories. NEO covers hospital and clinical interoperability scenarios that are outside our scope today. Our electronic prescribing with the health service's PEM platform is coming soon; the rest of the institutional clinical ecosystem is not where we are. The comparison below only makes sense for outpatient clinics.

Where MedicineOne is stronger than us

  • Clinical depth. Prescribing, decision support, inpatient care, nursing — we have none of this, and it is not where we are heading tomorrow.
  • Interoperability and payers: HL7, FHIR, links to imaging and laboratory systems, and billing to insurers and subsystems.
  • Scale and maturity. The company states more than 35 years and hospital-scale usage volumes, which is the ground NEO was built for.

Where Appointmint is stronger

  • The commercial side of a small clinic: pipelines, automations, WhatsApp on the clinic's number, payment links and direct debits, with published pricing.
  • Clinical reports from templates with the Scriber drafting the session, and automations that react to what happens in the calendar.
  • Packages with an automatic balance, subscriptions, direct debits and payment links: running a private clinic commercially, which is not the problem a hospital system was built to solve.
  • The cost model for small teams. NEO charges per seat; we include users in the plan. In a clinic with a receptionist, three practitioners and someone on invoicing, the difference is large.
  • One version, in the browser. NEO publishes differences between its Windows version and its web version; with us it is the same application on any computer.
  • Thirty days with no card and free data migration, with no proposal, no implementation project and no schedule.

Simple software on the outside, but with a huge impact on profitability.

Frequently asked questions

Is NEO better than Appointmint?+

For a hospital or a medical clinic with interoperability requirements, it is the right product and we are not. For a four-person physiotherapy clinic, you are buying a hospital system for an operations problem — and paying per seat for it.

Does Appointmint bill insurers and health subsystems?+

We have protocol-based invoicing, which covers different price lists per partnership. What we do not have are the specific submission flows to the Portuguese insurers and subsystems that NEO publishes. If that is your everyday work, ask us about it specifically before deciding.

Is Appointmint an alternative to MedicineOne?+

It depends on what decides your purchase. If it is running the clinic — diary, packages, invoicing, communication — then yes. If it is certified prescribing, diagnostic requests or public agreements, then no, and this page says so at the top. If you do switch, data migration is free and we do it, not you: tell us what has to come across — clients, appointments, history, packages, invoicing — and before we start we will tell you what we can bring and what we cannot.

A note on method

This analysis was carried out by an artificial intelligence agent, under explicit instructions to be impartial, to cite only public sources, and to record what it could not confirm rather than filling it in with something plausible. It was then reviewed by us, and whatever is said here about Appointmint has to hold up in the product.

The research closed on 12 September 2026. Products change and so do prices — always confirm with the vendor before deciding.
